TOLITS TALKS
The Testimony of Region I’s Badminton Prodigy
Carlitos Joe Corrales, popularly known as Tolits, has already etched a name for himself in the world of badminton, racking up back-to-back Palarong Pambansa championships, wowing fans with his lightning-quick reflexes, and lighting a fire under young athletes across the region.
As the 2026 Palarong Pambansa looms on the horizon, this young prodigy from Ilocos Sur is gearing up to write another chapter in his story, reminding everyone that greatness doesn’t come on a silver platter; it’s built…point by point…rally by rally.
But what drives Tolits to rise to the top, again and again? How does he turn long hours of grueling practice into polished skill? What fuels the fire that keeps him focused and fearless under pressure? And beyond the victories and medals, what lessons, dreams, and values define him as one of the pride carriers of Region I every time he steps onto the court?
It’s time to meet Tolits beyond the medals, beyond the victories, and into his world.
1. As you age, do you still want to be called ‘Tolits’?
“Yes, because it’s more than just a name. ‘Tolits’ carries memories, laughter, and the people who have known and loved me through the years. It also holds the young dreamer in me, the one who once longed to make a name in badminton. Growing older may change many things, but I would still want to be called ‘Tolits,’ because it reminds me of where I came from and the dreams that shaped me.”
2. Who are you outside the badminton court?
“Outside the badminton court, I am someone who continues to grow and explore different talents and skills. I enjoy discovering new interests whether in academics, creative pursuits, or other activities that challenge me to learn and improve. Each experience helps me understand myself better and develop discipline, patience, and confidence. I strive to do well in my studies, not just for recognition, but because I value learning and the opportunities it brings. Through all these, I aim to become a well-rounded person who keeps growing while staying grounded.”
3. How did badminton change your life?
“Badminton started as just a sport, but it grew into a part of who I am. It has taught me discipline, patience, and confidence, and it reminds me to keep going even when things get tough. It gives me a sense of purpose, a steady routine, and something worth striving for.”
4. What lessons in badminton can you share as advice to your fellow youth and athletes?
“From my experiences, badminton has taught me valuable lessons that I hope other young athletes can carry with them. It has shown me the importance of staying calm under pressure, being disciplined, and continuing to improve even after losses or tough days. So, always fight for every point, no matter the score, and remember: you won’t win every match, but you can learn from every loss. Each setback is an opportunity to grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient.”
5. How do you want to be remembered?
“I want to be remembered as someone who worked hard, never gave up, stayed disciplined, and always strived to improve. I hope people remember that I gave my best in every match, every challenge, and every opportunity. Above all, I want to be known as a humble person, someone who stayed grounded and true to themselves, no matter the recognition or success that came their way. If I can inspire others to keep pushing, learning, and growing while staying kind, then I will have left a legacy that truly matters.”

To you, our very own Tolits, as you chase excellence on the court, may you continue to inspire us that true greatness is not measured by trophies or titles, but by the values we carry, the discipline we uphold, and the resilience we show in the face of challenges. Every rally, every point, every hard-fought match is a lesson in patience, perseverance, and humility, lessons that extend far beyond the badminton court.
Thank you for reminding us that success is earned one step at a time, and that losses are not failures but opportunities to learn, grow, and become stronger. Your journey is a beacon for young athletes in Ilocos Sur and beyond, showing that dreams require dedication, character, and a willingness to give your best even when no one is watching.
For in sports, as in life, it is not only the points we win, but the lessons we embrace and the lives we touch, that define who we truly are.
