100 SDO IS delegates experience
Candon City’s gems for free
Travelled. Observed. Understood. Relished
SDO Ilocos Sur delegation took part in a free R1AA city tour, immersing themselves in Candon’s landmarks, culture, and local charm on April 9.
This activity was set to let each delegation explore key historical sites, interact with local residents, and appreciate the city’s rich heritage.
Arnis group of the division was among the 100 maximum participants for the said event.
“This tour was a refreshing experience for us. After intense training and matches, it felt good to slow down, see new places, and appreciate the beauty of Candon City,” said Elisa Mae Divina, player of Arnis secondary girls.
The tour included visits to several key sites such as Eco Park, Bagar (for calamay and cornik-making), museums, church, aquarium, Tumbleweed Park, and trade fair. Participants followed a rotational schedule to explore each location throughout the afternoon.
Darren Gabaldon, another Arnis athlete, expressed appreciation for the cultural exposure.
“Bilang mga atleta, sinasanay kaming maging malakas sa pisikal, ngunit ang karanasang ito ay nakatulong sa amin na mas maunawaan ang aming kultura. Ang makita kung paano ginagawa ang mga lokal na produkto at matutunan ang mga kwento sa likod ng mga lugar na ito ay nagbigay ng kahulugan sa aming paglilibot,” he shared.
Each stop lasted 20 to 40 minutes, while the trade fair visit was set for 30 minutes. Ilocos Sur’s schedule was part of a four-day rotation from April 7 to 10, 2026, covering all participating divisions in Region I.
Moreover, transportation was provided through designated city vehicles, including seven units and three coasters, with additional L300 vans available for support. Each division was transported from billeting schools to the tour venues and back.
“I truly commend Candon City for conceptualizing this remarkable undertaking for our delegation. For me, it’s a thoughtfully designed experience that educates, inspires, and creates memories we will cherish. Thank you, Candon City, for welcoming us with such warmth. You truly live up to your slogan, the City of Love and Care,” exclaimed Coach Jem-zy Dimabayao.
The City Tourism Office facilitated the activity by assigning tour guides and managing the flow of participants across the different locations.
