PURE DOMINANCE
Ilocos Sur smash duo rips Vigan City in badminton doubles to clinch Palarong Pambansa berth, 2-0
๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐๐จ๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ- Leaving no room for doubt, SDO Ilocos Surโs formidable duo, Daniel Joseph Habon and Faustus Arnold Blanza delivered a commanding performance to sweep Vigan City tandem in a dominant fashion, 2-0 (21-16, 21-16), during the R1AA Boys' Secondary Badminton Doubles finals and officially seal their ticket to the Palarong Pambansa, April 9.
Habon and Blanzaโs seamless synergy provided the winning edge, allowing them to dismantle their rivalsโ power plays with surgical net drops and perfectly timed interceptions.
"Ang nakita po namin sa kalaban namin kanina ay malalakas pero nagtiwala ako sa aking partner kaya nakamit namin ang tagumpay," Habon said.
The opening set remained a seesaw battle until Habon unleashed a series of deceptive cross-court shots that allowed the smashers to break away for a 21-16 finish.
Shifting the momentum into the second frame, Blanza took control of the backcourt, raining down thunderous smashes that pierced through Viganโs defense to widen the gap.
The tandem from Sta. Lucia Academy, Inc. showcased an airtight defense that left their opponents struggling to find a rhythm on the Candon City court.
Vigan City also displayed exemplary grit and high-level skill throughout the match, yet they could not withstand the relentless pressure and tactical precision of the Ilocos Sur shuttlers.
Despite a late-game rally from Vigan City, the Ilocos Sur pair maintained their composure and utilized a clinical drive-and-attack sequence to seal the final set at 21-16.
Coach Marc Vincent Begonia attributed the milestone to the pair's discipline and their ability to remain strategic even when the pressure was at its peak.
"They proved today that winning doesn't just rely on individual talent, but on the deep trust and coordination they have built as partners," Begonia remarked.
As they prepare to represent the entire of Region I, the smash duo is now focused on clinching a national gold medal at the upcoming Palarong Pambansa.
