Mighty Green Stallions Sweep R1AA 3x3,
Secure Historic First Palaro Ticket
CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur — For the first time ever, the Ilocos Sur Mighty Green Stallions, students of Sta. Lucia Academy, Inc., made history by sweeping the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Boys Basketball 3x3 tournament, earning a ticket to their debut Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur.
From the opening tip-off, the Stallions dominated their opponents with teamwork, focus, and relentless energy. They crushed Alaminos, 21-7, edged out Laoag City, 18-14, and defeated La Union, 21-17 in the preliminaries. In the knockout rounds, they narrowly bested Vigan, 21-19, and then overcame Dagupan in a tense semifinal, 18-16. In the championship, the Stallions decisively defeated Laoag City, 20-11, to claim the gold medal.
Coach Rowel Fabro Buelba Jr. ensures the Stallions stay in peak condition, keeping the boys healthy, focused, and motivated throughout their rigorous training sessions. He closely monitors their fitness, drills, and teamwork, making sure every player is ready to perform at their best on game day.
“These boys showed heart in every game. They never gave up, even when the scores were tight. This victory reflects their hard work and discipline.” Buelba remarked.
Team captain Christian F. Solis vowed to Coach Rowel Fabro Buelba Jr. to lead with discipline and teamwork. He said it is his dream to represent Ilocos Sur in Palarong Pambansa and showcase that a boy from the barrio can be both talented and disciplined, proving that dedication and hard work can take him to the national stage.
“Every game was intense, but we stayed focused and as one team. Playing with heart and teamwork paid off. Representing Region 1 for the first time is a dream come true.” Solis said.
The Stallions’ perfect run not only claimed the R1AA crown but also earned them their first-ever Palarong Pambansa appearance, a historic milestone for both the students and Sta. Lucia Academy, Inc.
