PINNING POWER
Ramon wrestles way to semis, eyes Palaro run anew
CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur – Crushing opponents with precision, striking with unrelenting force, and outmaneuvering every challenge, Ilocos Sur’s Geronimo Ramon bulldozed his way into the semifinals of the Region I Athletic Association (RIAA) Meet 2026 in the Juniors 58kg wrestling division, April 8.
A 3-time Palaro competitor and Palaro 2025 bronze medalist, Ramon proved he’s not here to play, but to dominate.
Ramon’s path to the semis was a showcase of wrestling mastery. In his opening bout against San Carlos City, he executed a flawless victory by fall, flattening his opponent to the mat with a textbook single-leg takedown that left the crowd roaring.
His second match against Alaminos City, on the other hand, was no less spectacular, as he controlled the center of the mat, countered every attack, and secured another fall victory, demonstrating both his stamina and mat IQ.
"Every match is a battle, and I refuse to back down. I step on the mat to fight, to dominate, and to earn my spot in the Palaro. I’ve trained for this moment, and I’m not stopping until I reach the finals," Ramon said.
Ramon remains determined to make another mark at the Palarong Pambansa, expressing confidence that his experience and relentless drive will carry him forward. “I’ve been here before, but every Palaro is a new challenge. My goal is to push past my limits and bring home another medal for Ilocos Sur,” he added.
Coach Marshal Neyney praised his athlete’s performance: “Geronimo showed heart, focus, and a killer instinct today. He’s in the zone, and every move counted. We’re ready to push further into the finals.”
Ramon’s technical prowess, coupled with his explosive gut wrench and precise arm drag, makes him a formidable contender as he prepares for the semis, with the Palarong Pambansa berth within striking distance.
