How Digay and Baptista Led the Charge

for Narvcan Netters

The air inside the gym is thick, not just with humidity, but with the rhythm of whistles, squeaking shoes, and focused shouts echoing through the air. Spectators cheer as players dive for the ball with their determination evident in every jump and set. 

Amidst this electrifying atmosphere stand two remarkable figures: Jumar Digay and Peter John Baptista whose eyes keep tracking every rotation of the ball. They are the coaching duo behind Narvacan National Central High School’s volleyball success.

Beyond the scoreboard, their partnership exemplifies excellence in mentorship. They are more than just the coaches for NNCHS’ volleyball team; they are the catalysts who  transform raw talent into disciplined athletes, forging a team that exemplifies resilience, teamwork, and excellence. Their blueprint for success not only elevates their players but also inspires the entire division.

𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧

Jumar Digay embodies discipline and tactical precision. His coaching philosophy revolves around strict training routines, strategic game plans, and a touch of tough love that pushes players beyond their limits. He believes that discipline is the foundation of victory, shaping athletes both on and off the court. For Digay, victory isn't just about the score; it’s about the mental fortitude built during the grind.

"Attitude is a little thing that makes a difference. Discipline is where it starts, then followed by the skills we hone in the training,” Digay asserted.

In contrast, Sir Peter John Baptista is the driving force of morale and technical mastery. He fosters positive environment where confidence is built through repetition and encouragement. While Digay provides the rigor, Baptista provides the resilience, ensuring the athletes are as mentally tough as they are physically skilled.

“Our true victory doesn’t just show up in the  score. It lies in the personal growth of our athletes and seeing them transform from hesitant students into confident individuals who believe in themselves and their teammates,” he shared. 

𝐍𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬

Success, however, is not born in a vacuum. The duo faces a constant net of challenges. Unlike other programs, these coaches must squeeze excellence out of limited hours.

"Before the intensive training, we struggle with the schedule because we are only allowed to train after class. The given time is often not enough to truly refine their skills,” the coaches explained.

Preparing for the R1AA felt like a race against time. Tasked with picking up players from distant schools, the coaches faced a daunting reality: a mere 10-day window to build a cohesive unit. 

"It's a struggle to blend different backgrounds in such a limited time," they shared. 

Indeed, balancing teaching duties with coaching demands sacrifices, but their passion for nurturing young talents keeps them going. Their perseverance exemplifies that with heart and dedication, obstacles can be overcome.

𝐑𝟏𝐀𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞

Leading their team in regional competitions like the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) is both an honor and a challenge. The pressure to perform is immense, but Digay and Baptista emphasize respect and unity, embodying the regional theme, "Play It, Love It, RlAA-We Care as One." 

They foster camaraderie among players, emphasizing that success is a shared achievement. Their leadership extends beyond tactics; it’s about cultivating sportsmanship, respect for opponents, and pride in representing their school and region.

Many of their former players have gone on to excel in college volleyball or have become successful professionals, carrying with them the discipline and values learned from Digay and Baptista. Their influence ripples through the community, inspiring other teachers and coaches to adopt similar mentoring approaches.

Their dedication proves that coaching is more than teaching skills—it’s about shaping character and life lessons that endure long after the final whistle.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐭

Despite exhaustion, both coaches remain committed. As Digay once said, “Coaching is tiring, but seeing our players grow makes every effort worthwhile.” Baptista echoes this sentiment, emphasizing that their true victory lies in the personal growth of their athletes.

As they lead their team onto the big stage of the R1AA, the pressure is undeniable. Yet, they stay grounded because they ardently believe that victory isn not measured solely by trophies but by the but by the unshakeable character forged in the heat of the game. 

For Digay, the real win isn't the gold around an athlete's neck, but the discipline in their stride and the integrity in their handshake.

"Coaching is tiring, but seeing our players grow makes every effort worthwhile,” Digay remarked. 

As the final whistle blows and the team huddles together, it’s clear that Digay and Baptista aren't just coaching a sport. They are building a blueprint for life, proving that with heart, discipline, and a shared vision, anyone can become a champion both on and off the court.
